Mountains of Mountains

Today's drive was almost the complete opposite of yesterday's.  I was amazed at the variety of mountains I saw - some were rolling hills (like these just east of Bakersfield, near Caliente):

Some were peaked, like this shot of the Sierra's from Barstow:

Which is where I stopped for lunch (can you guess where?):

Near Needles, CA (the last town before entering Arizona), I saw lots of pointed formations (hence the name?).  (No pics of those mountains, as I was now racing the clock.)

And then around Kingman (I think), I saw lots of those famous "table-top" formations.  (Again, no time for pics.)

Now, for some reason my in-car navigation wanted me to detour south at Mojave.  I thought it might be a "shortcut", until I reached Santa Clarita!  I turned around and cut over via 138/18 and got back on track, though, but it did add about an hour to what was already my longest day of driving.  :-(

So, after 10 hours on the road, lunch leftovers for dinner, a shower, email, blogging and a few phone calls - I'm ready to plan my attack for tomorrow and hit the hay so I take full advantage of the daylight tomorrow to see that GRAND CANYON!!!
