From Bay To Bay

Today was another driving day, making my way from San Francisco (SF Bay) to Eureka (Humboldt Bay), California.  I left the city, driving north across the Golden Gate Bridge and took the opportunity to get a couple of shots of the city and the bridge from "the other side" of the bay (still foggy):
I then took a quick little trip through Sausalito and decided I definitely need to include a day tour via ferry next time I go to SF.  What an adorable place!

The next several hours were filled with scenes of wine and cattle country as I made my way north.

It was mostly overcast the entire time, then turned to rain as I got into the mountains.  I intended to take pictures of the Redwoods (the ones I saw today), but it was so rainy and dark, it was pointless.  I hope to have better visibility when I visit Redwoods National Park tomorrow.

It continues to rain here in Eureka, so I'm just relaxing in my hotel, catching up with folks on the phone and planning the remainder of my journey.

Since it was a somewhat uneventful day to blog about, I thought I'd throw out this little game - can anyone guess which one of the following animals I have NOT seen while on this trip:

Butterflies
Cats
Dogs
Rabbits
Cows
Horses
Deer
Elk
Zebras
Llamas
Goats
Fish
Crabs
Sea Lions
Seals
Ravens
Ostriches
Turkeys

  1. Hi, I'm somewhat behind in my comments, but you have to know that I'm soooo enjoying your trip! The time in SFO with Becci was so neat. So nice that she could join you. I'm gonna guess turkeys. You could have seen all of those, as I recall that Hearst had several unusual animals around the castle and many of them remained for a long time. Dave and I remember seeing them as we rode the bus up the hill. So, you could have seen any or all of those listed creatures. =) Enjoy your restful day. norma

  2. @Norma - You're right about the interesting animals at Hearst Castle, but I'm afraid I also saw turkeys on the trip - on the drive between Cambria and SF, near Big Sur (the forested leg of the trip), I rounded a bend and there they were on the side of the road - 4-5 wild turkeys just hanging out.

Any other guesses? I'll give you a hint, I hadn't seen this animal as of the original post, but saw some today, so now I've seen them all.
